When purchasing your own drink at the Café Bar, you can choose to donate a coffee for a student who may need a little extra support during assessments.
Assessment periods can be some of the most demanding times of the academic year. Long hours of studying, balancing deadlines, working late into the evening, and managing financial pressures can all take a toll on student wellbeing.
Over the years, we’ve also noticed an increase in first aid call-outs linked to dehydration and poor nutrition during these busy periods. While a coffee or a small snack may seem simple, having access to something warm, energising, and comforting can make a real difference to someone’s day.
That’s why we’re introducing the ‘Donate a Coffee’ scheme at the Café Bar throughout the assessment period.
‘Donate a Coffee’ will run from Wednesday 6th May 2026 – Friday 31st August 2026.
What is ‘Donate a Coffee’?
The idea is simple:
When purchasing your own drink at the Café Bar, you can choose to donate a coffee for a student who may need a little extra support during assessments.
For just £3, you can donate a hot or iced drink.
As part of the initiative, donors will also receive a small card where they can choose to leave an encouraging message, motivational quote, or words of support for the student receiving the drink. Whether it’s ‘You’ve got this!’, ‘Good luck with your assessments’, or simply ‘Take a break and be kind to yourself’, these messages are intended to create moments of connection and encouragement during a stressful time of year. These cards will be displayed on a chalkboard in the Cafe Bar. To redeem the drink, students will take a card from the board and give this to the Front of House team when ordering their drink.
The initiative is designed to create a small but meaningful act of community care by helping students stay hydrated, take a break, and feel supported throughout assessment season.
