This new work by artist McCourt builds on her earlier piece Per Ardua, which explored the experiences of LGBTQ+ personnel in the RAF affected by the historic ban on homosexuality. Taking its title from the RAF’s official motto, Per Ardua Ad Astra (“through adversity to the stars”).
For Ad Astra, McCourt invites members of the wider community to contribute their own stories through conversation and photography. Gathering voices shaped by injustice, stigma or erasure, the project will form a new constellation of shared experiences, an evolving artwork that creates space for dialogue, reflection and collective healing
