Lincoln Arts Centre at the University of Lincoln is thrilled to announce that the Lincoln Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (LAODS), a cornerstone of Lincoln’s cultural fabric for over a century, will become an associate community company at the venue.
This exciting development deepens the longstanding partnership between LAODS and the Arts Centre, recognising the society’s unwavering dedication to producing exceptional theatrical work in Lincolnshire and their vital contribution to the local creative community.
Since 1901, LAODS has entertained audiences with its dynamic performances, beginning with Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard. Over the decades, the group has weathered the challenges of global events, including World War 1 and 2, and the COVID pandemic with resilience and passion. Today, LAODS moves into its 124th year and continues to inspire with its commitment to engaging audiences and fostering a love of the performing arts. The residency marks a new chapter in the collaborative journey between LAODS and Lincoln Arts Centre. LAODS Chair, Nicola Calver, said “We are absolutely delighted to be invited to take up residency at the Lincoln Arts Centre and we welcome being recognised for the exceptional theatre we love to create. We first arrived at the Arts Centre in 2013 and feel very much at home.” Andy Morris – vice chair and director said “We have a real treat in store for 2025 as we bring to life Andrew Lloyd Webber’s CATS. With a live 16-piece Orchestra and a cast over 30 local performers, we cannot wait to bring this timeless epic to the audiences of Lincolnshire.”
“A lot of the work we do is about new artists and new work, often contemporary in nature so It’s great to be able to champion and celebrate the rich heritage and diversity of cultural and artistic offering Lincolnshire thriving and dynamic community arts scene offers. 40% of our programme consists of local community amateur companies, and it’s a proud tradition to support that work” said Ben Anderson, Creative and Executive Director of Lincoln Arts Centre. “We are excited to provide an even stronger platform for their work and look forward to collaborating to create engaging experiences for our audiences.”
