Lincoln Arts Centre secures funding to create VE & VJ Day community project celebrating Our Freedom: Then and Now.
17:00 – 18:00 public artwork illuminated (60 minutes) – Outdoors
18:00 – 18:30 – the special event (30 minutes) – Indoors
This Remembrance Sunday, join us at Lincoln Arts Centre for the launch of Freedom: Then & Now, a brand-new public artwork marking 80 years since VE Day and the end of the second world war.
The event will feature live music, speeches, and the unveiling of the main artwork – a stunning giant mosaic created from thousands of images submitted by people across Lincolnshire, each one capturing what freedom means today.
The artwork will remain on display throughout the November, inviting reflection on the past and celebration of the freedoms we enjoy now.
This autumn, you can still be part of the mosaic, share your own images of freedom and contribute to a living portrait of Lincolnshire by 17 October! Visit nowandthenfreedom.com to submit your photo and join the story.
“Our Freedom: Then and Now”, is part of a £2 million national creative programme marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Supported by the UK Government through Arts Council England, the Future Arts Centres and Libraries Connected initiative will see 60 arts centres and libraries across Britain present community-led projects exploring the legacy of VE Day and VJ Day.
“Our Freedom: Then and Now” empowers artists, veterans and residents to explore themes of past and present freedoms through 60 creative projects, including exhibitions, performances and installations running from June to November 2025.

“Doesn’t that little white rabbit look handsome in his waistcoat! And what a smart watch! Wait… wait just a minute… Thinking about it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a rabbit with a waistcoat… never mind a watch to take out of it! What’s going on?”
