However, their perfect everlasting love seems on a collision course with their family’s traditions. Adama is pressured to take the position of village chief, but Banel and Adama have different plans – that is until something in the air shifts. A drought strikes and the cattle begin to die, changing everything. Award-winning filmmaker Ramata-Toulaye Sy’s breathtaking and lyrical debut feature follows the fated lovers in their quest to carve a life for themselves beyond the expectations of others. The film premiered in Competition at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, making Sy only the second Black woman in the history of the festival to do so.
Director Bio
French-Senegalese Ramata-Toulaye Sy was born and raised in the Paris region. She joined La Fémis in 2011 in the Screenwriting department, from which she graduated in 2015. Ramata-Toulaye worked, among others, as a screenwriter on the film Sibel (2018) by C. Zencirci and G. Giovanetti as well as Our Lady of the Nile (2019) by A. Rahimi. In 2020, Ramata-Toulaye directed her first short film, Astel, selected in more than 80 festivals and pre-selected for the 2023 César Awards. Banel & Adama is her first feature film.

'Reet Good' is a documentary film following the journey of a new creative Live Art residency solely for artists that identify as D/deaf, disabled or nerodiverse. The film documents the first ‘Reet Good’ project, an electric, dynamic and trail-blazing event of Live Performance Art. 'Reet Good' seeks to break down barriers, challenge preconceptions and boldly centre and illuminate the work of Deaf, Disabled and Nuerodivergent Artists. After the screening Pierce Starre will share their process and learning as a producer and creator of a project which places access at the forefront of every element.

The group schemes to match Claudio with Hero, then to match soldier Benedick with his friendly rival Beatrice, Leonato's niece.
