City of Lincoln Council, Lincoln School of Creative Arts and Lincoln Arts Centre team up to deliver festive joy on the High Street this December

This December Lincoln Arts Centre, the University of Lincoln School of Creative Arts, and the City of Lincoln Council have partnered together to deliver The Lincoln Guildhall Winter Exhibition in the windows of the historic landmark on Lincoln High Street. With submissions from students in the School of Creative Arts, a new artwork will be unveiled each day leading up to Christmas and presented to the busy shoppers on the high street throughout the festive season.

This marks a new partnership that has been built between these three organisations, and this year will be the first iteration of a project that they hope will become an annual festive tradition. Taking inspiration from Lincoln’s twin city, Neustadt an der Weinstraße‘s yearly advent calendar celebration, they want to bring this tradition to Lincoln.
This will be an opportunity for the emerging artists studying at the University to begin their journey into the creative world, and to have their artwork showcased on a public stage, by the thousands of residents and visitors to the city. The Guildhall has been described as the most important late medieval gateway standing in the country, little has changed for over 5 centuries, and millions of people each year walk beneath this iconic Lincoln landmark.
Associate Professor and Creative Engagement Producer at the University, Rachel Baynton said:
‘We’ve had lots of fun working on this project that celebrates our city’s history, it’s future, and the festive season. The students have had just a short week to contribute to this project and have responded to themes of togetherness, hope and joy, as well as the idea of building local and global relationships – inspired by our twin city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße. It’s been a joy to see their creative interpretations of these themes, and the fun they’ve had with some of their submissions! This is the first time we’ve tried this and we’re grateful to the Guildhall and City of Lincoln Council for providing the opportunity, and to Lincoln Arts Centre for their support. We’re looking forward to seeing “The Stonebow” windows full, and to extending and expanding the project in the years to come.’
The exhibition will begin on December 1st, and a new artwork will be showcased daily up until December 24th on the South facing side of the Guildhall.
