CALLING ALL ANALOGUE ARTISTS – FUTURESHOCK 2017

Introduction

FUTURESHOCK is Lincoln Performing Arts Centre’s response to Frequency 2017, Lincoln’s Festival of Digital Culture, which takes place across the city 20-29 October (frequency.org.uk). From the end of September, leading up to and during Frequency Festival, we will be exploring the role of analogue or ‘obsolete’ technologies within contemporary performance practice.

Calling All Analogue Artists

FUTURESHOCK is an exploration of the on-going potential of analogue technology in arts and culture. Throughout the fringe we aim to celebrate the value of ‘old/obsolete’ non-digital processes through sited work, public interventions and performance events, these can be rough-and-ready repurposed artworks or more polished integrations.  The fringe is not intended to place value-judgements on digital and non-digital practices, nor set them in opposition; rather we view FUTURESHOCK as a forum to promote the benefit of alternative and forgotten media within a wide, diverse palette of creative possibilities. Indeed, we are particularly interested in artworks where digital and non-digital technologies operate in a dialogue to explore the human experience.

We are looking for works that either actively or subtly, addresses the theme of Displacement, echoing the wider focus of Frequency Festival 2017 and that engage with our diverse communities through accessible and inclusive content.

Timeline

Please submit a CV and a proposal describing your idea or existing art work and outlining how it meets the selection criteria, cost, available dates by 10am on Wed 1 March 2017 to programming@lpac.co.uk with the subject line of FUTURESHOCK 2017 Proposal. Proposals and CV should not exceed more than 6 sides of A4 but can include links to examples of proposed artwork/previous work.

Selection

The proposals will be considered by the creative team at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and will be assessed on the accessibility of the creative idea, the innovative use of analogue/”obsolete” non-digital technologies, the engagement with the theme of displacement and the practicality of presentation (financial (this is a low-cost/free fringe) and demands on other resources).
