The Cambridge First All-Ladies Fire Brigade
Brought together by their joint loves of musical theatre and science, composer Jenni Pinnock and writers Helen Arney and Brian Mackenwells started working on “The Cambridge First All-Ladies Fire Brigade” as part of the Birmingham Hippodrome’s first Musical Theatre Writers Group. It’s an upbeat ensemble show that follows the world of Hertha Marks-Ayrton, Lincoln’s own Charlotte Scott and three of their friends at 1870s Girton College, Cambridge. When fire threatens their safety, they start the first ever all-female Fire Brigade to protect themselves from harm – and end up trying to burn down the patriarchy.
Jenni is a British composer who loves combining quirky time signatures, soaring melodies and moments of stillness. Helen is the UK’s premiere geek songstress, ex-science presenter and recovering stand-up comedian. Brian is an Irish writer who has created poetry, prose, plays and a short documentary about pencils for the BBC.
